After graduating from Holy Cross High School, Rick started working with his brother Mike in the summer tree business, while competing in Freestyle skiing in the winter. In 1981, Rick incorporated Schwinghammer's Tree Service, and has been cutting, pruning, and planting trees in Saskatoon for the last 38 years. In 2000, Schwinghammer's Tree Service expanded and added commercial landscaping. Since then, the company has built several parks in the City including Funk park, Mackay park, River Landing and Rotary Park
Rick, now a retired Freestyle Skier, also works for the International Ski Federation in the winter, and volunteers at Canadian Freestyle ski events. He worked at several Winter Olympics including Calgary (1988), Vancouver (2010) and PyeongChang (2018)
